RPL has gone fine free! Many public libraries, including our sister libraries - Pulaski Library and Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library - have made this important shift from charging fines for items when they are returned late to not charging any overdue fines at all. Libraries are for communities, and we want to open up access to libraries to all members of the community by removing barriers. We hope our patrons will feel encouraged to readily rekindle their relationship with reading and learning now that overdue fines have been eliminated. RPL supports early literacy and literacy for all ages. Financial hardships will not be a barrier for a family, or for any individual, to use their library. RPL wants our community to be collectively doing fine – not doing fines. RPL thanks the Library Board, City Manager, and City Council for supporting this change. If you currently have overdue (or even loooong overdue) items checked out, please return them and start over with a fresh account. We’ll be happy to see you at RPL!
