Radford, Va. - Over 500 delegates from around the state gathered last week at the 63rd Annual Conference of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. The conference is a learning exchange and provides an opportunity for recreation and park professionals to discuss areas of common interest.
Highlighting each year’s conference is a formal presentation of awards. This state-wide program honors individuals, departments and organizations throughout Virginia who have demonstrated excellence in any of several areas during the previous year. Over 100 applications were received vying for awards in 14 different categories. Judged by a jury
of its peers, Radford Parks and Recreation, was selected for the Best New Environmental
Population 25,000 and Under:
Best New Environmental Sustainability - “Fall Into the New”
The one-day event was held in Radford as a partnership between the City of Radford, Giles County, Pulaski County, Floyd County, and Montgomery County. The event focus was to clean up the New River and its tributaries. About 400 participants cleaned the River, River Banks and adjacent Parks.
