Medicare Part-D

What’s new? When can I enroll or change my plan? These and other important questions and information on plan changes and deadlines will be presented by Deena Flinchum, VICAP Counselor with NRV Agency on Aging on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Montgomery County Government Center. Deena will discuss ways to get coverage, learn what the drug plan covers, the types of costs you’ll pay in a Medicare drug plan and how Part D works with other insurance. Refreshments will be served. Free

Witches Brew

A fun Halloween event not to be missed! Join us at Christiansburg Recreation Center on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Wear your favorite costume and enter the costume contest, enjoy a Witches Brew for lunch along with beverages and dessert. Participants should bring a can of soup to be used as bingo prizes. Registration deadline is October 24, 2018 fee: $5.00.

Veteran Assistance

Help the veterans with your donations during the month of November by dropping off needed supplies at the Meadowbrook Public Library. The donations will be given to the VA Medical Center in Salem. Items needed are deodorant, denture adhesive, 3 in 1 body wash, body lotion, toothpaste, nail clippers, sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts (size M, L, XL) and new baseball caps. This program is co-sponsored by Elliston-Shawsville Post 4920 & Auxiliary.

Honor our Veterans

All veterans and family are invited to a special program to honor Veterans at the Meadowbrook Public Library. On Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. an early dinner will be served after the program. Co-sponsored by Elliston-Shawsville Post 4920 & Auxiliary and Meadowbrook Public Library. Free

Snowman Art

Create a winter scene with a snowman and accompanying features in this fun acrylic painting class on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Christiansburg Recreation Center. No experience necessary, beginners welcome. Come join the fun and laughter as our patient instructor will walk you through the steps to creating your own masterpiece. Registration deadline is November 7. Fee: $15.00 includes supplies.

Gifts in a Mason Jar

It’s time to think about Christmas gifts for the people in our lives. Join us on Friday November 16, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Montgomery County Government Center and pack a mason jar with a fun or unique gift, decorate it and you will have a nice gift in a reusable container. Learn fun and great ways you can create a special gift for that loved one. Mason jar gifts will be given as door prizes to participants. Light refreshments will be served. Registration deadline is November 8, 2018 Fee: $5.00.

Quilting Treasures

Textile artist, Kevin Womack will present examples of his quilting work spanning the last 30 years, including examples of traditional quilting, art quilting, hand dyeing and surface design techniques. Join us at Meadowbrook Community Center on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This program is presented by the Meadowbrook Public Library and Meadowbrook Quilters in memory of Linda Wilson. Linda was an avid quilter and gardener who was instrumental in the creation of the Meadowbrook Public Library. Free

Double Feature Christmas Movies

Bring your favorite Christmas potluck dish to share at lunch and enjoy a great day with friends by the fireplace watching Radford Senior Centers Double Feature Christmas Movies on Thursday, November 29, 2018 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Get cozy with a cup of fresh hot chocolate and sit back and enjoy A very Merry Mix-Up. Shop owner Alice Chapman (Alicia Witt) is nervous to meet her future in-laws at Christmas. Alice’s trip becomes stressful when her luggage is lost and her phone is damaged, leaving her no way to find Will Mitchum (Scott Gibson) family. As fate would have it, she meets her future brother-in-law, Matt Mitchum (Mark Wiebe), at baggage claim and is happy to get a ride home with him. After falling in love with their festive holiday traditions and warm welcomes Alice must decide if her “Merry Mix Up” will actually turn out to be her destiny.
