Snowman Art

Create a winter scene with a snowman and accompanying features in this fun acrylic painting class on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Christiansburg Recreation Center. No experience necessary, beginners welcome. Come join the fun and laughter as our patient instructor will walk you through the steps to creating your own masterpiece. Registration deadline is November 7. Fee: $15.00 includes supplies.

Gifts in a Mason Jar

It’s time to think about Christmas gifts for the people in our lives. Join us on Friday November 16, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Montgomery County Government Center and pack a mason jar with a fun or unique gift, decorate it and you will have a nice gift in a reusable container. Learn fun and great ways you can create a special gift for that loved one. Mason jar gifts will be given as door prizes to participants. Light refreshments will be served. Registration deadline is November 8, 2018 Fee: $5.00.

Quilting Treasures

Textile artist, Kevin Womack will present examples of his quilting work spanning the last 30 years, including examples of traditional quilting, art quilting, hand dyeing and surface design techniques. Join us at Meadowbrook Community Center on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This program is presented by the Meadowbrook Public Library and Meadowbrook Quilters in memory of Linda Wilson. Linda was an avid quilter and gardener who was instrumental in the creation of the Meadowbrook Public Library. Free

Double Feature Christmas Movies

Bring your favorite Christmas potluck dish to share at lunch and enjoy a great day with friends by the fireplace watching Radford Senior Centers Double Feature Christmas Movies on Thursday, November 29, 2018 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Get cozy with a cup of fresh hot chocolate and sit back and enjoy A very Merry Mix-Up. Shop owner Alice Chapman (Alicia Witt) is nervous to meet her future in-laws at Christmas. Alice’s trip becomes stressful when her luggage is lost and her phone is damaged, leaving her no way to find Will Mitchum (Scott Gibson) family. As fate would have it, she meets her future brother-in-law, Matt Mitchum (Mark Wiebe), at baggage claim and is happy to get a ride home with him. After falling in love with their festive holiday traditions and warm welcomes Alice must decide if her “Merry Mix Up” will actually turn out to be her destiny.

The second movie will begin at 1:00 p.m. with A Bride for Christmas. After Jessie Patterson (Arielle Kebbel) calls off her third engagement– at the altar! She sweats of serious relationships until she finds “the one.” When single, charming Aiden (Andrew Walker) comes along unbeknownst to Jessie, Aiden has bet his friends that he can convince a woman to marry him by Christmas.

 Healthy Eating Workshops

Carilion Clinic Community Health and Outreach will offer a series of interactive workshops in a friendly setting at Radford Parks and Recreation Dept. Have fun while learning skills to make healthy eating and regular physical activity a part of your lifestyle. There will be giveaways and food samples at every workshop! Classes are scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00-7:00 p.m. with a different topic at each class.

Join us on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 and take home tips to enjoy healthy food that tastes great. Class #2 will be Tuesday, February 19, 2019; Learn Quick, Healthy Meals and Snacks. Class #3Tuesday, March 19, 2019 we will discuss Eating Healthy on a Budget. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 we will give you Tips for Losing Weight and Keeping it Off. Tuesday, April 21, 2019 Making Healthy Eating Part of your Total Lifestyle. June 18, 2019 you will learn how important Physical Activity is the Key to Living Well.  Participants are requested to sign up for each class that is offered in advance.  Class # 4: Tips for Losing Weight and Keeping it Off, Class #5: Making Healthy Eating part of your Total Lifestyle and Class #6: will be Physical Activity is the Key to Living Well.

Cake Walk

We all like cake, right? Nutritionists say that adding a slice a chocolate cake to the morning’s bacon and eggs can actually help you lose weight! Morning is the best time of the day to indulge in sweets because your metabolism is working at its fastest and you have the rest of your day to burn off the calories.  In observance of Chocolate Cake Day, Radford Senior Center will offer a Cake Walk and Bingo for senior citizens age 50 and up on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.  Of course we will provide a few samples of cake and ice cream for all! Participants are required to bring a cake (any flavor) for the cake walk. Bingo prizes are not required by participants!  Registration already in progress...registration deadline is Friday, January 18, 2019.

 Glimmer and Shine Grannies

Join Radford Senior Center on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. for Glimmer and Shine Grannies with top rated Beauty Consultant, Robin Rolin. Robin will assist you with tips for making your skin look young, firm and toned. She will show you how radiant aging skin can be with products to hydrate your skin, while eliminating flaking and dryness. Gain back your confidence with clever tips in applying your make-up. A picture is worth a thousand words so Radford’s local Photographer, Jack Ratcliff will be available to capture your new Glimmer and shine.
